The American Society for Chinese character and Calligraphy Education (assce), with Chinese American teachers and professors at American universities as the main body, has held a series of international conferences and exhibitions on calligraphy education with international influence since it was founded at the University of Maryland in 1998. The first international symposium was held at the University of Maryland (1998), the second was held at the University of California, Changdi Campus (2000), the third was held at Beijing Normal University (2002), the fourth was held at the University of South Carolina, Columbus Campus (2004), the fifth was held at Japan Antan women's University (2006), the sixth was held at Taiwan Taichung University of Education (2008), and the seventh was held at the first time in Beijing Du Normal University (2010), the eighth session was held in October 2012 at Southwest University, Texas, the United States. The special photography director of CCTV International Chinese language station's 8-part documentary film crew of "five thousand years of Chinese calligraphy" interviewed and reported the international seminar. The ninth session was jointly held in May 2014 in Nanning, Guangxi, the Secretariat of China ASEAN Expo and Guangxi Art College, which also added new features to Nanning ASEAN Cultural Expo.

Professor Li Yu, the current chairman of the American Calligraphy Education Association and professor of Emory University, said: in the process of Chinese teaching and Chinese calligraphy going to the world, Chinese characters, Chinese character writing and calligraphy teaching need more international attention and multi-dimensional thinking from the cultural and academic circles, and new academic and educational practice topics are constantly emerging, which has become the hot spot of this academic conference. Professor Xing Wen of Dartmouth College, Department of Ivy League university, made a speech on the theme of "Rethinking official script: Chinese manuscript culture, comparative calligraphy and calligraphy teaching"; ye Jiayi, a young calligraphy teacher of East China Normal University, made a research on Teaching Chinese as a foreign language; Zhu Yichen, a young calligraphy teacher of Nanjing Normal University, made a speech on "teaching Chinese characters - understanding the evolution of characters"; calligraphy teachers of American Middle Schools Xia Haiyi's "practice of handwritten Chinese characters for American junior high school students to promote the recognition and reading of Chinese characters"; Dr. Liu Jin's "emotional and subversive writing and creative creation of Chinese characters in the Chinese network"; Dr. Laura's research paper of Amsterdam University in the Netherlands: "calligraphy and local Chinese characters in Contemporary Chinese society." Wait for the paper report. The workshop of calligraphy and painting, the demonstration of calligraphy creation and the scroll of Yu Youren's authentic cursive script exhibited in the calligraphy works all add luster and features to the international calligraphy exchange.

Tu Xinshi, the former president of the American Society of Chinese character and calligraphy education, the dean of the Chinese character culture academy, and the overseas teaching teacher of the Calligraphy Institute of Peking University, gave a speech at the opening ceremony of the seminar. He reviewed the extraordinary course that the society had gone through in the past 18 years. He pointed out that "cultivating with silent ink" and holding high the banner of overseas Chinese character and calligraphy education and communication were our original purpose. Adhere to, adhere to, self-confidence; inherit, spread and expand the art and cultural treasures of Chinese culture as our long-term responsibility, and have become a unique and effective cultural channel connecting with the world. The "beauty of sound, meaning and form" of Chinese characters needs comprehensive and accurate teaching and cultivation. It should flow into the hearts of American students like clear water. The more the calligraphy beauty of Chinese characters is displayed, the more it will win the love and respect of people all over the world and stand in the forest of world art Tu Xinshi stressed that "returning to classics and keeping innovation" proposed by Peking University is the right direction, and the tendency of de classicalization and vulgarization should be opposed and prevented in the dissemination of overseas culture and education.

The American Society for Chinese character and calligraphy education has gone through 18 years between the two sides of the Pacific Ocean. It is also the only Chinese academic group in Europe and the United States to promote Chinese culture and calligraphy education. Practice has also proved that Chinese character calligraphy education is a popular new course of Oriental culture and art in American universities and middle schools.

Professor Deng Baojian, chairman of the calligraphy Department of Beijing Normal University, wrote to the conference and announced that the 11th International Symposium on Chinese character calligraphy will be jointly held in 2018 in Beijing Normal University.
