International Symposium on Chinese Calligraphy Education: making calligraphy a bridge of cultural communication

The 9th International Symposium on cross cultural exchange and cooperation of Chinese calligraphy and Chinese calligraphy education, jointly organized by the Secretariat of China ASEAN Expo, the American Society of Chinese calligraphy education and the calligrapher Association of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, has recently concluded in Nanning, Guangxi. Calligraphy education experts, professors and famous calligraphers from 12 countries and regions including China and the United States attended the seminar.

Zheng Junjian, chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Calligrapher Association, introduced that the 9th International Symposium on Chinese character calligraphy education is one of the series activities of 2014 China ASEAN cultural exchange year and an important part of the cultural exhibition of China ASEAN Expo. The China ASEAN Expo, CO sponsored by China and 10 ASEAN countries, has been successfully held for 10 times, becoming a link of cultural exchange and providing a convenient platform for cross-cultural exchange and cooperation of Chinese calligraphy. This seminar highlights the special role of Chinese calligraphy as an important link of cultural exchange between China and other countries in the world, and it will have a profound impact on further promoting Chinese calligraphy to the world and promoting the wider spread of Chinese culture in other countries In the trend of Chinese culture moving towards the world, how to comply with the historical trend, strengthen cooperation and exchange in the international scope, and let Chinese calligraphy education enter the overseas classroom is the theme of this International Conference on Chinese calligraphy education. How to teach? What to teach? Can calligraphy education promote and strengthen overseas Chinese teaching and promotion? More than ten experts and scholars expressed their own opinions at the meeting, enhanced the understanding among different cultures through communication and exchange, and achieved ideal results.

Tu Xin, the liaison organizer of the 9th International Symposium on Chinese character and calligraphy education, chairman of the American Society for Chinese character and calligraphy education and visiting researcher of the Institute of calligraphy art of Peking University, said that the practice of Chinese character and calligraphy education abroad has proved to be a widely welcomed and successful way of cultural transmission. For more than ten years, there have been a group of Chinese calligraphy teachers in American universities, who have contributed their energy and years to the dissemination of Chinese culture and art. By holding an international seminar on Chinese calligraphy education, making calligraphy a bridge for cultural communication will be conducive to promoting the friendly development of China, ASEAN and other countries around the world, and will be of positive significance for promoting cultural industry and economic and trade cooperation.
